Manchester for international models

  • Unless you hold status under the EU Settlement Scheme, you cannot do paid or unpaid work in the UK as a visitor. The exceptions are a Permitted Paid Engagement and the Creative Worker concession, so first work out which route you will be using.
  • Since 2 April 2025, Lithuanian citizens need an electronic travel authorisation (ETA) to travel to the UK. It costs £20, lasts two years (or until your passport expires) and allows stays of up to 6 months at a time. Apply only on GOV.UK: other websites charge more.
  • A Permitted Paid Engagement covers a single pre-arranged job: you need a written invitation from a UK agency or client, evidence that you are an established model in your own country, and you must be 18 or over; the job must take place in your first month in the UK.
  • If you will work for 3 months or less and a UK sponsor has assigned you a Creative Worker certificate of sponsorship (CoS), you do not need a visa in advance, but you do need an ETA. On arrival, see a Border Force officer and get your passport stamped: if you go through the ePassport gates you will not be allowed to work.
  • For longer work you need a Creative Worker visa: up to 12 months, a £340 application fee, a healthcare surcharge of usually £1,035 a year, and at least £1,270 in your account for 28 days, unless your sponsor certifies that it will cover your first month.
  • An agency may not charge fashion or photographic models any upfront fee, not even for a place on its website or in a book: it earns only commission on your fees. Photos or other services may only be offered under a separate contract that you can cancel free of charge within 30 days.
  • If you are non-resident, the client withholds 20% tax on fees for TV or online adverts and for catwalk shows at events with paid entry once its payments to you in the tax year exceed £12,570. Still photo shoots are not covered. Keep every FEU2 certificate you are given.

How to spot a real model agency

  • A real agency never charges for applying, “registration” or a place in its book. It earns a commission when the model gets paid work.
  • It does not push you into an expensive shoot with “its” photographer. Simple, unretouched digitals (polaroids) are all a first test needs.
  • You can take the contract home; it states the commission and the term clearly.
  • It represents real models who work for known clients, which you can check in their portfolios and on social media.
  • Minors are only ever spoken to with their parents present.

How to apply to any of these agencies

  1. Take 4–6 simple photos in daylight: face front, profile, half and full length. No make-up, fitted dark clothes.
  2. Measure your height, bust, waist and hips, and note your shoe size.
  3. Use the agency's own form where it has one; otherwise e-mail your digitals and measurements. Never pay to apply.

How this list is made

Each agency is checked against public company registers, state licence requirements and professional-association member lists, then against its own website. Only agencies confirmed as operating are published. No agency pays to be listed and there are no rankings or reviews. Last verified: 2026-10-10.

01How many modeling agencies are there in Manchester?

This catalogue lists 4 verified agencies in Manchester, including Boss Model Management, Industry Model Management, J'adore Models and Nemesis Models. Only agencies with a current licence or professional-association membership, or confirmed by at least two independent sources, are included.

02Do I have to pay a modeling agency in Manchester?

No. A legitimate agency earns a commission on your bookings and never charges to apply, to register or for a place in its book. Being asked to pay upfront is a warning sign.

03Can I apply to agencies in Manchester from abroad?

Yes – most agencies accept digitals and measurements online, and the table above shows which ones say so explicitly. Many prefer to be approached through a mother agency, which also handles work permits and placement.

04What is the best modeling agency in Manchester?

It depends on your board and goals: fashion agencies look for specific measurements and place models with international clients, commercial agencies work with a wider range of ages and looks. Compare boards and application routes in the table rather than rankings.
