How to wash bras
A bra's shape depends on the elastic band and the underwires – which heat, a hard spin and the dryer destroy. By hand or in a bag, cool, dried hung by the centre – and it lasts much longer.
Always follow your garment's own label – it beats any general advice.
Washing
- Fasten the hooks so they don't snag other clothes.
- By hand in cool water with a mild detergent for 10–15 minutes; or in the machine in a mesh bag, 30 °C gentle cycle.
Drying
- Don't squeeze the cups; blot with a towel and hang by the centre gore, not the straps.
Common mistakes
- The dryer – the band loses its stretch and the wires bend.
- Wearing the same one two days running – the elastic needs a day to recover.
