How to wash linen
Linen gets softer with every wash. It creases easily but is tough – the trick is not to over-dry it and to iron it while still damp.
Always follow your garment's own label – it beats any general advice.
Washing
- 40 °C gentle cycle (coloured linen at 30 °C), a half-full drum – fewer creases.
- A mild detergent without bleach; no softener needed – linen softens by itself.
Drying and ironing
- Take it out at once, shake out and hang. If the dryer is allowed – low heat, out while slightly damp.
- Iron while damp, 3 dots (up to 200 °C), dark linen inside out.
Common mistakes
- Over-drying – linen turns stiff and the creases set.
