How it works
The card is left with the client after a casting so they remember the model. The front usually carries one strong portrait, the back several different pictures and the data: height, bust, waist and hip measurements, shoe size, hair and eye colour.
The usual format is a card of about A5. In Germany and some other countries it is called a sedcard, in the UK sometimes a Z-card. Agencies often print cards in their own design.
A card must be accurate. If your measurements have changed, reprint it: a client who books a model from the card expects the same figures.
In practice
Before fashion week the agency prints a hundred new cards for a model: a black-and-white portrait on the front, four frames and the measurements on the back. Each day he leaves cards at every casting. Two months later his waist changes by two centimetres, so the agency updates the digital card and prints new ones.
What to watch for
- Take 5–10 cards to a casting.
- Update your measurements every few months.
- The pictures on the card should look like you now.
