How it works
Cosmetics, haircare and jewellery clients choose models by how they look very close up: the skin, the shape of eyes, lips and brows, symmetry. That is why a beauty shot is a separate part of a portfolio.
On such a shoot the light is soft and precise, the make-up exact, and every hair and skin imperfection shows. The model works in tiny movements: the gaze, the angle of the head, tension in the lips.
Good skin is a working tool here, so daily skincare, sleep and sun protection matter especially for beauty models.
In practice
A skincare brand books a model for a beauty shoot. The week before she tries no new treatments, sleeps well and keeps her skin out of the sun. On set the camera is very close: a drop of cream on the cheek, a glance to the side, a slight turn of the head. In an hour hundreds of frames are taken with barely visible differences.
What to watch for
- Do not try new cosmetic treatments before a beauty shoot.
- Leave brows and lips natural unless told otherwise.
- Practise small changes of expression in a mirror.
