How it works
Before the job the make-up artist prepares the skin, the make-up and, if needed, body make-up according to the idea. On set they correct all day: taking down shine, refreshing the lips, changing the make-up for the next look.
A model arrives with clean skin and clean hair, without make-up unless told otherwise. Allergies, sensitive skin or recent treatments should be mentioned in advance.
During fashion week a whole team of make-up artists works backstage under a lead artist. One show look is repeated on dozens of models, so the work is very fast.
In practice
A model arrives at a shoot with clean skin and tells the make-up artist in advance that she is allergic to one ingredient. The artist chooses other products. Over the day the make-up changes three times: natural for the morning, bolder for the evening and dark lips to finish. Between frames the artist keeps taking down the shine.
What to watch for
- Arrive with clean, moisturised skin.
- Mention allergies and sensitivities.
- Do not try new face or brow treatments before a job.
