How it works
A show collection is split into numbered outfits: look 1, look 2 and so on. At the fitting each model is assigned one or more looks, which are photographed and pinned on a board backstage with the model's name.
When a model shows several looks, they must change between exits in minutes or even seconds. Dressers who know each look's order help with that.
In fashion magazines the word is used more widely: "her look" means the overall image, and a model's "look" sometimes means their type or appearance.
In practice
At the fitting a model is assigned two looks: look 7 and look 23. Backstage, pictures of both hang on the board with his name. After the first exit he has three minutes to change, and the dresser is already holding the second look's clothes and shoes.
What to watch for
- Memorise your look numbers and their order.
- Rely on your dresser during changes: they know what comes first.
- Do not change anything in a look on your own.
