How it works
Models arrive backstage several hours before the show. Hair and make-up come first, then the rehearsal, and changing last. A board on the wall shows each model's looks and the running order.
Just before the show models line up in order. The producer signals when to go, and a dresser meets the returning model at once if another look is waiting.
Photographers and journalists are often backstage, so a model is at work from the first minute. It is also where connections with make-up artists, stylists and other models are made.
In practice
The show starts at 3 pm, models' call is 11 am. The model arrives with clean hair, spends an hour with the hair stylist and another half hour with the make-up artist. Rehearsal at 1.30, changing at 2.30, everyone lines up at 2.50. In between she eats the snack she brought and charges her phone.
What to watch for
- Arrive with clean hair and skin, no make-up.
- Bring water, a snack and a phone charger: there is a long wait.
- Listen to the producer and your dresser, not your friends.
