How it works
The resort collection was historically meant for wealthy clients heading somewhere warm in winter. Today it is a full collection that reaches stores in November–December. Pre-fall arrives at the end of summer, before autumn/winter.
Some houses stage big cruise shows in spectacular locations in different countries. Others present in-between collections only as a lookbook or a small event in the showroom.
For a model it means extra castings, lookbooks and showroom work outside the main fashion weeks.
In practice
A fashion house stages a cruise show on another continent and books a model in advance. The client pays flights and hotel, the show happens on one evening, and afterwards the model spends two more days shooting that collection's lookbook. The collection reaches stores in November.
What to watch for
- Watch the fashion calendar: cruise show dates change every year.
- In-between collections are often shot as lookbooks.
- Ask whether travel to a cruise show is paid by the client.
