How it works
Major houses sometimes book a new model exclusively: they walk no other show that season and appear for the first time only on that house's runway. It is a strong signal to the whole industry that this face is worth watching.
Exclusivity has a price: the model gives up other shows and their fees. So it should be paid separately, and the agency decides with the model whether it serves the career.
A similar honour is opening or closing a show: the first and last exits go to the models a house most wants to highlight.
In practice
A major Paris house offers a new model an exclusive: he will open their show but walk no others that season. The agency reckons he will lose three or four other shows, but opening for such a house will bring campaign offers. An extra fee for the exclusivity is agreed, and the model accepts.
What to watch for
- Exclusivity should be paid and set out in writing.
- Ask how long it lasts: one show or the whole season.
- Decide together with your agency.
