How to recognise it
A tall shaft covers the calf to the knee, fitted or looser, zipped on the inside or not. The heel is flat, block or stiletto.
Where it comes from
Knee-high boots became popular in women's fashion in the 1960s: in 1964 André Courrèges showed white low-heeled go-go boots with short dresses.
Who and when it suits
Warm and elegant, they go with dresses, skirts, slim jeans and leggings. With a midi dress the legs stay covered.
Variations and look-alikes
They come fitted (sock style), looser, flat riding-style, on a block or stiletto heel, in leather or suede. Low-heeled riding boots are a classic. They differ from cowboy boots in a plain shaft without stitching.
How to style it
- The shaft should fit your calf.
- With a midi dress the hem covers the top of the boot.
- Tuck slim jeans inside.
- Store with boot shapers so the shaft does not fold.
