How a job happens

Booking

Also called: confirmed job

A booking is a confirmed job: the client and the agency have agreed the date, the hours, the fee and the usage, and the model has accepted.

How it works

When the client confirms an option, the agency sends a booking confirmation. It states who the client is, where and when the job takes place, the hours, the fee, what the pictures will be used for and for how long, and who pays for travel.

From that moment both sides are committed. The model must arrive on time and looking as the client saw them; the client must pay even if it cancels too late. So read the confirmation before the job, not after.

A model has the right to know the fee in advance. If the booker says "we will find out later", ask for the figure in writing: your statement depends on it.

In practice

The agency sends a confirmation: e-commerce shoot, Wednesday, 9 am to 5 pm, day rate, pictures used only on the client's website for one year, travel paid by the client. The model replies "confirmed" and saves the email. Two months later, when the statement arrives, he checks the amount against it.

What to watch for

  • Read the confirmation: fee, hours, usage.
  • Photograph it and keep it until you are paid.
  • Do not change your look before the job.

Questions and answers

Frequently asked

01Can I turn down a confirmed booking?

Only for a serious reason such as illness, and by telling the agency as early as possible. The time to say no is at the option stage.

02When is a booking paid?

The client pays the agency on the invoice terms, often 30–90 days later, and the agency pays the model after commission and expenses.
