How it works
Placement means the mother agency finds the model an agency in another country. That agency sends the model to castings, negotiates fees, invoices clients and looks after everyday matters: housing, maps, transport.
A contract with an agency abroad is often short: in Asia it usually runs two to three months, in Europe it can be long-term. It states the territory, the commission and the costs the agency pays up front and later deducts from earnings.
After the trip the agency prepares a statement: every job, the commission, the expenses and the balance. It shows whether that market is worth returning to.
In practice
The mother agency sends a model's pictures to three agencies abroad. The Milan agency replies that it wants him for fashion week and offers terms: an apartment, pocket money, commission. The mother agency reads them, explains them to the model and only then confirms the trip. In Milan the model gets a daily plan from the local booker and reports any problems to his mother agency as well.
What to watch for
- Before you travel, find out the apartment price, the pocket money and the commission.
- Go only through your mother agency and with a work visa.
- Ask what happens if the balance is negative.

Frequently asked
01Can I find an agency abroad by myself?
You can, but then nobody checks the contract, the housing or the jobs. Through a mother agency you have someone who speaks for you.
02Can several agencies represent me in one country?
It depends on the exclusivity clause. Usually one agency represents a model in one market.
