Showroom model

Also called: house model

A showroom model presents a collection to store buyers in a brand's showroom, trying on garments and showing them close up during sales appointments.

How it works

After the show come the sales: store buyers visit the brand's showroom to order the collection for next season. They want to see a garment on a person, so the model changes all day and walks in front of a few people.

The work mostly happens during fashion and market weeks and lasts days or weeks. It is paid by the day or hour, and the model's measurements must match the collection's sample size exactly.

It is invisible from the outside but valuable: steady income, long-term clients and a view of a fashion house from the inside.

In practice

After the show a house books a model for ten days in its Paris showroom. Store buyers come in every day, and she shows them the collection's looks, each several times a day. The work is paid by the day, and her measurements match the sample size exactly.

What to watch for

  • Be ready for long days on your feet.
  • Your measurements must match the sample size all season.
  • Polite contact with buyers is part of the job.
