Model casting

Model casting is the selection process through which a client or foreign agency chooses signed models for work or a market. An open call is different: it is an agency searching for new faces. Both work like job interviews, although expectations vary by client and country.

Preparation matters because selectors assess type, proportions, movement, manner and the ability to follow directions, rather than elaborate styling. Knowing what to wear, what materials to carry, how to pose and how to check an opportunity helps you present yourself clearly and avoid scams. Rejection is not necessarily final, as agencies may watch a model’s development across later castings.

How casting works in practice

Selectors consider whether a model fits a particular job or market. Western clients may accept neutral digitals, while Asian castings commonly require posing. Chinese clients often expect models to arrive in make-up. A foreign agency’s scout may collect material and review it later, so answers can take from a few days to a few weeks. No response usually means another type was selected for that job.

What to bring and check

Keep accurate measurements and digitals on your phone. Bring heels if you wear them, a swimsuit when requested and a composite card if available. Never pay to attend a casting or open call. Before signing with an agency, verify the company, its working models and foreign partners, then read the written contract and fees. Minors should participate with a parent’s knowledge, and a parent or guardian must join the contract process.
