In short
- Our catalogue lists 30 agencies in Hamburg out of 137 in Germany; only Berlin has more (32). Most Hamburg agencies are in the Rotherbaum (5), Neustadt (4) and St. Pauli (3) quarters.
- The German public broadcaster NDR calls Hamburg the country's model capital. The e-commerce companies About You, Otto and bonprix are based in the city.
- Germany's fashion week is held in Berlin, not Hamburg: the next one is scheduled for 29 January to 1 February 2027.
- A single HVV ticket in the Hamburg AB zone costs €4.10, a day ticket €8.20 and the monthly Deutschlandticket €63.
This page covers only what is specific to Hamburg. Contracts, commission, tax, rules for minors and registration in Germany are covered in the guide Modeling agencies in Germany.
Where Hamburg's agencies are
The catalogue lists every professional agency with a live website and model board whose core business is representing models. It leaves out model schools, sellers of paid Sedcards, photo shoots and courses, hostess and promotion staffing companies and self-registration databases. An agency's profile shows VELMA membership and the company's register number when we know them.
We have an office address for 26 of the 30 Hamburg agencies. Going by the addresses they give themselves, they are spread as follows (the borough is in brackets):
| Quarter (borough) | Agencies | Nearest U-Bahn and S-Bahn stations |
|---|---|---|
| Rotherbaum (Eimsbüttel) | 5: AWA Models, M4 Models, MGM Models, Model Management, Modelwerk | U1 Hallerstraße; U1 Stephansplatz; S Dammtor |
| Neustadt (Hamburg-Mitte) | 4: 4play Modelmanagement, A Management, elbmodels, FREISTIL Sportmodels | S Stadthausbrücke; U3 Baumwall; U2 Gänsemarkt; U2 Messehallen |

| Niendorf (Eimsbüttel) | 1: EXIT Models | U2 Joachim-Mähl-Straße |
| Bergedorf (Bergedorf) | 1: OKAY Models | S Bergedorf |
By borough that makes 11 agencies in Eimsbüttel, 9 in Hamburg-Mitte, 3 in Altona, 2 in Hamburg-Nord and 1 in Bergedorf. Four agencies (Canvas Management, Core Artist Management, CURVE Models and MD Management) are not in the table because the catalogue has no office address for them. We found no addresses in HafenCity or Eppendorf; the closest to Eppendorf is Mega Model Agency, whose office on Eppendorfer Weg falls in the Hoheluft-Ost quarter.
The densest spot is Rotherbaum, between Dammtor station and the Hallerstraße underground stop. Modelwerk and M4 Models are on the same street, Rothenbaumchaussee, Model Management is round the corner on Hartungstraße, and AWA Models and MGM Models are a few blocks east, towards the Alster lake. In the Karolinenviertel, Mirrrs Models and Mattmüller Casting are neighbours on Karolinenstraße and production world is on the adjoining Marktstraße. In Neustadt, elbmodels and FREISTIL Sportmodels are in the Portuguese quarter by the harbour. DSM Management is placed in St. Georg by its address on Lange Reihe; the agency's contact page gives its office on Venusberg, in Neustadt. Furthest from the centre are EXIT Models in Niendorf, about a kilometre from Joachim-Mähl-Straße station, and OKAY Models in Bergedorf, about a kilometre from Bergedorf S-Bahn station.
The oldest catalogue agency in Hamburg is Model Management, founded by Heidi Gross in 1990. PMA dates from April 1992, OKAY Models from February 1994, Modelwerk from 1995 and Place Models from 1999. Kult Models was founded in 2001 as a men's agency and has had a women's board since 2019. MGM Models was founded in 2007 by Marco Sinervo and has offices in Dusseldorf and Paris. M4 Models and A Management each have a second office in Berlin, and Le Management is the German company of a network founded in Denmark. Two Munich agencies in our catalogue also have Hamburg offices: Louisa Models and Most Wanted Models.
Three agencies have short records in the catalogue for now. The profiles of Core Artist Management and MD Management hold only the company name and website address. Place Models, which has operated since 1999 in Ottensen, was rebuilding the model board on its website on 11 October 2026.
Twenty-one agencies have a women's board and 19 a men's board; 9 have a new faces board, 8 a talent board, 4 each a curve and a commercial board, 2 a senior board, and 1 each a kids and a sport board. Six agencies have no boards assigned in the catalogue yet. You will find agencies by board on the pages women, men, new faces, talent, curve, commercial, senior, kids and sport. Wondercast has the kids board, FREISTIL Sportmodels represents sport models only, and CURVE Models, founded in 2011, describes itself as one of the first curve agencies in Europe.
Why Hamburg is called the model capital
The NDR report "Model-Hauptstadt Hamburg" (1 May 2026) says no other German city has agencies of such importance, and calls MGM Models the country's largest agency. The trade association VELMA points the same way: on its last published list (June 2025), Hamburg appears for six of the eleven members. Four of them are Hamburg agencies in our catalogue (Mega Model Agency, PMA, M4 Models and Model Management); the other two are the Hamburg offices of the Munich agencies Louisa Models and Most Wanted Models.
Clients keep the agencies here. About You has its headquarters in Hamburg: the company reports more than 15 million active customers in 26 European markets and around 5,000 brands, and it has been part of the Zalando group since 2025. The Otto Group, a retail and services group with about 36,300 employees, works from the Bramfeld quarter. It owns bonprix, also based in Hamburg, whose clothes are bought by more than 16 million active customers in over 25 countries.
So a large share of the work in Hamburg is e-commerce, catalogue, lookbook and advertising shoots. The German employment agency's job profile for models names catalogues and online shops first. Most Wanted Models describes its business as models for e-commerce, catalogue productions, catwalk, lookbooks, campaigns and showrooms. We found no statistic on what share of German bookings e-commerce makes up.
Advertising also pays for usage rights, so before you confirm a job, ask where, for how long and in which countries the pictures will be used. We explain how to get ready for a casting in model castings: how to prepare.
Fashion week: in Berlin, not Hamburg
Germany's fashion week is held in Berlin twice a year. In 2026 it ran from 30 January to 2 February and on 2–5 July, and the next edition is scheduled for 29 January to 1 February 2027. Models with Hamburg agencies travel to Berlin for catwalk castings, so agree with your agency in advance who pays for travel and accommodation in those weeks. There is more on that market on the page Berlin modeling agencies, and dates for all the fashion capitals are in our fashion calendar.
How a Lithuanian model gets to Hamburg
The usual route is through a mother agency in Lithuania. It sends Hamburg agencies your digitals, measurements and an intro video. If an agency is interested, it invites you for a few weeks or a season, and your mother agency helps you weigh the terms. You can also apply directly, using the form or email address on the agency's own website.
As an EU citizen you need neither a work permit nor a residence permit: an identity card or passport is enough. If you only fly in for jobs and keep living in Lithuania, you do not have to register in Germany. If you move, you must register your address within two weeks of moving in. This, along with commission, tax for non-residents and health insurance, is explained in the Germany guide.
From Hamburg Airport the S-Bahn line S1 runs to the centre: it takes 25 minutes to the main station (Hauptbahnhof) and leaves every 10 minutes between 6:00 and 23:00. The station is directly beneath the terminals and all HVV tickets are valid. Going from the centre to the airport, board one of the first three cars, because the train splits at Ohlsdorf and the rear section goes to Poppenbüttel.
Apartment, living costs and transport
For new faces the agency often finds a place in a model apartment and deducts its cost from your future fees as an advance. The same goes for pocket money. We found no reliable public data on model apartment prices in Hamburg, so ask for the price in writing.
As a guide, the city's rent index, the Mietenspiegel 2025, put the average rent before utilities in Hamburg at €9.94 per square metre a month on 1 April 2025. The equivalent figure was €15.35 in Munich, €11.50 in Frankfurt and €11.15 in Stuttgart. The index covers existing long-term tenancies whose rent changed in the past six years. A short-term let for a visiting model usually costs more.
HVV tickets
The underground (U-Bahn), city trains (S-Bahn), buses and harbour ferries all belong to the HVV transport association. Under the fares in force since 1 January 2026:
- a single ticket in the Hamburg AB zone is €4.10;
- a short-trip ticket (Kurzstrecke) is €2.10 and a local-area ticket (Nahbereich) €3.50;
- a day ticket for Hamburg AB is €8.20 and is valid until 6:00 the next morning;
- single and day tickets bought online or in the HVV apps are 7% cheaper;
- the Deutschlandticket is €63 a month. It is a subscription you can cancel by the 10th of the current month. It is valid on local and regional transport across Germany, but not on ICE, IC or EC trains.
If you have two or three castings in a day, the day ticket pays for itself from the third journey. If you stay in Hamburg for a full month, the Deutschlandticket costs less than eight day tickets and also covers regional trains to Bremen or Berlin.
Minors modeling in Hamburg
Children under 15, and pupils still in compulsory schooling, need a permit from the supervisory authority for a photo shoot or filming. In Hamburg the client applies, at least 10 days ahead, and attaches a certificate from the school. Permits normally cover no more than 30 days per calendar year for each child, and days worked for different clients are added together. The hour limits and other conditions are in the Germany guide.
What to expect in your first season
- Most of your time will go on go-sees and castings for commercial clients. A few weeks without bookings is normal.
- The first season often ends with agency debt: the apartment, test shoots and travel cost more than you earn. Before you travel, ask how it is repaid if your contract ends.
- Check every deduction on your model statement.
- A genuine agency does not charge for signing you, for a Sedcard or for a shoot; being asked to pay is a sign of a modeling scam.
- The most valuable result is e-commerce and catalogue clients who book you again.
