Tappernøje for international models
- As an EU citizen you need no work permit in Denmark: SIRI writes that an EU citizen may freely enter Denmark and begin to work upon arrival, with or without an EU residence document. For up to 3 months there is nothing to apply for; if you stay longer than 3 months, you apply through SIRI for the free EU residence document (form OD1A), which has no expiry date.
- A tax card needs a CPR number or a tax number. If you work for 3 months or less, you get a tax number instead of a CPR number. If you intend to stay 3 months or more (6 months for EU citizens), you register with the Civil Registration Office in person at a Citizen Service centre with the EU residence document, your passport and proof of a permanent Danish address; International Citizen Service centres are in Copenhagen, Aarhus, Odense, Aalborg, Esbjerg and Sønderborg. Without a tax card an employer withholds 55% of a salary.
- Fees in Denmark are B-indkomst: tax and the 8% labour-market contribution (am-bidrag) are not deducted from them, the recipient pays them; from 2026 am-bidrag on B income is paid only from the age of 18. A business must register for VAT once taxable sales exceed DKK 50,000 within a calendar year; below that, registration is optional.
- Denmark has no artist or model withholding tax for non-residents. The Tax Agency's legal guide says limited tax liability arises only with employment by a Danish employer or a foreign employer with a permanent establishment in Denmark, or with an establishment of your own there. Our reading: a self-employed model living abroad who is paid a fee by a Danish agency or client for a few days' work owes no Danish tax on it and declares it at home. We did not read the treaty position for any country, so talk to a tax adviser and ask your home social-security institution about an A1 certificate.
- If you are not an EU citizen, you need a residence and work permit (application fee for the work schemes DKK 6,810 in 2026). The exemption for models: professional models who work in Denmark for a short period in connection with companies holding significant international fashion shows and fairs are exempt from the work permit for up to 3 working days within 180 days, together or as three separate days; a visa is still needed where your nationality requires one. For other cases SIRI issues a guiding statement in writing.
- Public payments and tax refunds go to a NemKonto; if you live abroad you can set up a non-Danish account. You can open a Danish bank account only once you have a tax card. An employer reporting a non-resident's pay must have your home-country Tax Identification Number since 2024.
- No law or association sets the commission in Denmark and no agency publishes one; read the percentage, and the amount it is calculated on, in your contract. No law bans an agency's fees to models: Casablanca Models charges DKK 500 for a test shoot, Cast Agency Denmark a DKK 385 registration fee and JS Total Booking DKK 98 for a profile; the amounts are on the profiles.
- The Danish Fashion Ethical Charter, run by Copenhagen Fashion Week, requires a model to be 16 (15 with dispensation and an adult), payment for work, and an LMS health check for every Danish model at a charter agency, paid for by the agency. International models at Copenhagen Fashion Week file a medical certificate valid for 2 years, usually paid for by the foreign agency or the model. The next fashion week, AW27, runs from 1 to 5 February 2027.

The terms set a one-off registration fee of DKK 385, paid on admission to the catalogue and not refundable once processing has begun. The agency says there are no further fees, but members pay for their own photos. The FAQ adds that admission is no guarantee of jobs, there is no age limit, and profiles not updated for 4 years are deleted. Danish law neither bans nor expressly allows such a fee; the Marketing Practices Act forbids misleading and requires special care where the buyers are children and young people.
03Why can't I see the Cast Agency Denmark catalogue?
Because the catalogue of models, actors, extras and families is shown only to logged-in clients; companies apply for access on the site. There is no public board, so the agency is included with a reservation: it meets the owner's rule of listing every business that represents models and charges a fee, but we could not check who is in it. On its site it says it handles more than 150 casting and booking jobs a year and names LEGO, Hummel, Christina Rohde and Johnson's Baby as clients.
04What is Børnecasting.dk?
The sister site of Cast Agency Denmark, which announces kids casting tours in towns across Denmark; the autumn 2026 tour is held with the agency. The site says it has held 405 castings with 54,772 participants in Denmark and Sweden over the years. MigogAarhus wrote on 15 February 2024 about such a casting in Aarhus for children aged 3 to 16. A casting is a casting, not a job: a child under 13 will later need a permit from the Working Environment Authority for a shoot.
05Does Cast Agency Denmark require exclusivity?
No. The FAQ says members may also be with other agencies, and that many jobs are in Copenhagen and Aarhus. Members get access to a job bank with paid and unpaid tasks. The unpaid tasks are something to know in advance: the Danish Fashion Ethical Charter requires payment for commercial work, but this agency has not signed the charter.
06Where else in Zealand outside Copenhagen are there agencies?
We found no agency office in Næstved itself, Køge, Holbæk, Slagelse or Hillerød; Freelance Models in Næstved was a sole proprietorship from 2013 to 2020 with only a Facebook page. All the other Zealand agencies are in Copenhagen and its suburbs: 16 in Copenhagen and one each in Hellerup (Star Kids), Klampenborg (1·kid modelmanagement) and Albertslund (JS Total Booking, which charges a DKK 98 profile fee).
