The Kids
Nederhorst den Berg is a village in North Holland, between Amsterdam and Hilversum. One of the 100 Dutch agencies in our catalogue is here. Because the country has no licence for model agencies, the catalogue includes every business that represents models and the profiles say what we found.
The site of The Kids says the agency was founded in Amsterdam on one conviction: authentic children produce the most striking images. It now works from Nederhorst den Berg and represents more than 500 children aged 0 to 18. The site names Rebecca, the booker, and Marcel, who handles administration, as the owners. In the catalogue the agency has a kids board.
On its registration page the agency asks only for the child's details and up to three natural photos and promises a reply within two weeks. The page mentions no fee. The agency's own site prints no KVK number; the company directory Bedrijvenregister lists it as Casting & Model Agency The Kids B.V., KVK number 30122576, at Nieuw Walden 92.
What parents wrote in 2012
On the Zwangerschapspagina forum several parents wrote in 2012 that The Kids charged a one-off EUR 15 for the photos shown on the agency's site and asked for it again when the photos were updated. The same parents wrote that the agency required them not to register with other agencies. These are forum posts that we could not verify, and they are fourteen years old; today's registration page mentions no fee. Two questions are still best asked directly: whether the photos on the site cost anything, and whether representation is exclusive.
For comparison, two other kids agencies near Amsterdam publish their terms. Kidz Management in Diemen applies a EUR 70 annual administrative fee, offset against the first paid booking, and requires exclusivity. La La Agency in De Hoef charges EUR 25 a year only in a year when the child got a job, and asks for at least 6 months of exclusivity.
Teenagers aged 13 to 17
The agency represents children up to 18, and older ones fall under different limits from the youngest. From 13 no exemption from the Labour Authority is needed, but in a school week a 13- or 14-year-old may work at most 7 hours a day, 12 hours and 3 days a week, and not between 23:00 and 08:00. A 15-year-old is allowed 8 hours a day. Young people of 16 and 17 may work up to 9 hours per shift and 45 hours a week, but not at night. Children under 13 need an exemption, and their hours are much shorter; all the limits are listed in the guide Modeling agencies in the Netherlands.
