In short
- The catalogue has one record in Surhuisterveen: Margreet Models, founded in 2009.
- The founder no longer works as a model manager: she scouts new faces for the Amsterdam agencies Touché Models and Future Faces.
- The site offers a Model Academy: part of the material is free, the online training is paid.
Margreet Models
Surhuisterveen is a village in the province of Friesland, in the north of the Netherlands. Our catalogue has one of the country's 100 records here, and it needs reading more carefully than most. The catalogue lists every business that represents models; we do not vouch for them, and each profile shows what we found, good and bad.
Margreet Models calls itself a high fashion and model scouting office based in Surhuisterveen. The catalogue gives 2009 as the founding year and three boards: women, men and new faces. It used to be an ordinary model agency, also trading as Margreet Model Management. The regional paper De Streekkrant wrote on 20 May 2014 that three of its models, Anke Baas, Sigrid Barkmeijer and Nynke Vermaning, had reached the RTL 5 programme I Can Make You A Supermodel. At the time the office was above the village library.
What changed after 2020
The business portal Ondernemend Netwerk Noord Oost published an interview with founder Margreet Kooistra on 4 April 2024. She said that model Marjan Jonkman started her career with her and that work almost stopped in 2020 because of the coronavirus. Her most important point for a future model is this: she no longer works as a model manager but scouts new faces for the Amsterdam agencies Touché Models and Future Faces.
So you will not find an agency here that negotiates your bookings itself and invoices clients. You will find a person who knows the Amsterdam agencies and can introduce you to them. That is a real route into the market, above all if you live far from the capital, but the contract terms will be set not by the Surhuisterveen office but by the agency you sign with.
The second part of the business today is training. The site offers a Model Academy: a free e-book, podcast and masterclass, plus paid online training from the age of 13 without height requirements. The prices of the training are not given on that page. Training without height requirements is not the same as selection by an agency: finishing a course guarantees no place with one, and that is worth asking about directly.
Other markets
- Amsterdam has 50 of the 100 catalogue agencies, among them agencies the faces are scouted for.
- Leeuwarden has Jamm Models, a Frisian agency with its own board and fashion shows.
- Heerenveen has Echtemensen.com, a commercial model and casting agency.
How to get started
- Start with the free material: the e-book, podcast and masterclass are enough to see whether this work is for you.
- Before buying training, ask for the price and the programme in writing and whether you will be introduced to anyone afterwards.
- If you are put forward to an Amsterdam agency, read its profile in our catalogue first.
- Ask who pays the scouting fee and out of what, and whether it changes your commission.
- The rules for minors and the rest of the country's set-up are covered in the guide Modeling agencies in the Netherlands.
